Hubitat Elevation is a powerful home automation hub that allows users to control a wide range of smart devices, from lights and thermostats to locks and cameras. While Hubitat does not natively support Apple HomeKit out of the box, it’s still possible to integrate Hubitat with HomeKit through a few steps, enabling users to control their Hubitat-connected devices with the Apple Home app and Siri. Here’s how you can bring the two together.
Steps to Connect Hubitat to Apple HomeKit
Set Up Your Hubitat Elevation Hub
Before you can connect Hubitat to HomeKit, make sure your Hubitat Elevation hub is properly set up and running. You’ll need:
- A Hubitat Elevation hub connected to your home’s network.
- The Hubitat Elevation app installed on your mobile device.
Once set up, ensure that all the devices you want to control through HomeKit are added to Hubitat.
Install the HomeKit Integration App on Hubitat
Hubitat doesn’t natively support HomeKit, but you can achieve integration by using the HomeKit Bridge app. This app acts as a bridge between Hubitat and HomeKit, allowing communication between the two systems. Follow these steps to install the HomeKit Bridge app:
- In your Hubitat Elevation hub interface, go to the “Apps” section.
- Click “Add Built-In App” and select “HomeKit Bridge”.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to install the HomeKit Bridge app.
Enable Devices for HomeKit Control
Once the HomeKit Bridge app is installed, you’ll need to choose which devices you want to control through HomeKit. To do this:
- In the HomeKit Bridge app, select the devices you want to add. This might include lights, thermostats, locks, or other compatible devices.
- The app will generate a HomeKit pairing code that you will need for the next steps.
Add Hubitat Devices to the Home App
To link Hubitat with HomeKit, follow these steps:
- Open the Apple Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the “+” button in the top right corner, then select “Add Accessory”.
- Scan the HomeKit pairing code generated by Hubitat’s HomeKit Bridge app.
- Once scanned, Hubitat’s devices will appear in the Home app. You can assign them to rooms and start controlling them through HomeKit.
Test and Control Devices via Siri
After successful pairing, you’ll be able to control your Hubitat-connected devices via the Apple Home app or using Siri. For example, you can say “Hey Siri, turn off the lights in the living room,” or use the Home app to control your devices remotely.
Automate and Customize
With Hubitat integrated into HomeKit, you can create custom automations within the Home app. Set up scenarios like turning off lights when you leave home or adjusting the thermostat when you arrive. These automations add extra convenience and enhance the smart home experience.
